Large Black Pig Nehill Brother’s Farm

60 Objects Nehill Brother's Farm

The Large Black Pig is now an endangered domestic farm animal.  The black pigment of it’s skin made it an ideal animal to forage out of doors, without the risk of sunburn. This breed has a high fat content, and is prized for the quality of meat, and was once used to make tallow candles.

The Nehill brothers farmed traditionally. Long-established farming practices often show us how to be sustainable. On Nehill Brother’s farm resources were combined and nothing was wasted. The whey produced by separating the milk from the dairy was fed to pigs that were fattened and sold at market – two economies operating from the same land.
