Watercolours by Caroline Pounds, 1845 ca.

60 Objects The Heights Collection

Very little is known about Caroline Pounds, other than she was the wife Dr. James Baker Pounds, who settled in Ballarat and opened a medical practice.   Her son married Lilias Ibbotson, eldest daughter in the Ibbotson family, of The Heights Geelong.

Caroline Pound’s watercolour studies were found at The Heights, which remained in the possession of descendants of the Ibbotson’s until the property was given to the National Trust.

Many of Pound’s watercolours are painted on velum.
