Gore Hill Memorial Cemetery

Visit the oldest general cemetery on Sydney's north shore and learn how it connects to Sydney's past in a walking tour

Gore Hill Memorial Cemetery is an historic cemetery that contains the graves of 15,000 pioneers who were buried between 1877 and 1974.

In a walking tour you will learn the stories of those who built Sydney, the famous and the ordinary people. This was the original burial site of Saint Mary McKillop before her re-interment in her chapel at North Sydney and also the site of Maria Green, the first resident of the suburb of Greenwich.

There are memorialisations to soldiers who were killed during World War One and who were buried overseas but are remembered on family headstones.

Light snacks will be available at the end of the tour.
