Female Factory Focus

Join accredited guide, Kerima-Gae Topp, for a lively and informative 3½ hour tour by mini-bus that starts at the landing place where most of the women would have first set foot in Parramatta, then visits the first Female Factory site known as ‘the factory above the gaol’.

This will be followed by a guided tour of the second Female Factory site, being the first purpose-built Female Factory and model for the others and regarded as Australia’s oldest remaining convict women’s site with 1821 & 1823 buildings still standing.

Enjoy refreshments while viewing the special power-point presentation titled ‘Australia’s Female Factories’ which clearly demonstrates the importance of the Parramatta site and what little, if any, remains at the others, and poses the important question ‘why has the Parramatta Female Factory site not been given the World Heritage Listing it deserves?’

Finally, come ‘face to face’ with some of the spirited Female Factory women in the recently updated ‘HerStory’ exhibition.
