Bondi Road Heritage Tour – from Bondi Post Office

This Heritage Tour of Bondi Road commences at the Bondi Post Office and proceeds along Bondi Road investigating the shop premises and architecture with a stroll down Wellington Street before continuing along Bondi Road to Denham Street and the former tram terminus.

Meeting at Bondi Post Office we share stories of some of the businesses which have operated on Bondi Road and families that have lived above the shops. We explore Watson Street and then Wellington Street, visiting St Patrick’s Church and School, Scarba House, Dickson Park and Bondi Public School. The history, memories and stories are shared about each of these places.

Continuing along Bondi Road to the corner of Denham Street, we discuss the further development of the area with the coming of trams from the 1880s , the tram terminus and the cutting for trams travelling to Bondi Beach. Stories of some of the businesses near the Denham Street corner and the Royal Hotel are shared.

During the tour the types of architecture of houses, shops, service stations, flats and hotels are observed and noted.
